live life, live with no regrets

something I would have to be mindful of when I start a new chapter in my work life. 8)

Excerpts from Regina Brett’s 50 life lessons
“Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.”

“When in doubt, just take the next small step.”

“Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.”

“Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.”

” Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.”

“Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.”

“Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.”

“You can get through anything if you stay put in today.”

“When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.”

“Overprepare, then go with the flow.”

“Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.”

“No one is in charge of your happiness except you.”

“Frame every so-called disaster with these words: “In five years, will this matter?”“

“Always choose life.”

“Forgive everyone everything.”

“What other people think of you is none of your business.”

” Time heals almost everything. Give time time.”

“However good or bad a situation is, it will change.”

“Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.”

“Believe in miracles.”

“Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.”

“All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.”

“Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.”

“The best is yet to come.”

“No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.”

Regina Brett (born May 31, 1956) is a columnist for The Plain Dealer, a daily newspaper serving Cleveland, Ohio. She was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for commentary in 2008 and 2009

Read this article by Geoff Tan in “my paper” this morning while awaiting for therapy massage to my lingering shoulder and hamstring pain, which is affecting and hampering my running form and running efficiency.

So decided to google on the author. Here are some excerpts of quotes from her life lessons book which strikes a chord. They are common sense and some are sayings that I have heard before but they serve as good reminders for us to reflect and be good to ourselves, our lives and lives of people around us.

Have a great day, and a great life everyone! B)

Changi Coastal Road
With my cyclometer out of action, I have been pedaling along the road at a relatively steady but fast pace, gauging from the strain on my just-recovered hamstring pull and the tight quads, should be at about 33-34 km/h.
the road was full of cyclists, many in groups at a very fast pace, zooming past me, but somehow, i kept my focus and maintain that pace.
Then came the 4km loop at loyang, kept my gear and powered my way up the slopes, can feel the burning sensation on the quads, two times and then turned back along loyang ave, and entered hendon road, a small deserted road behind the old changi hospital that has a steep climb of about 400 m. I should do 5 loops, i told myself… up and down, repeatedly, 5 times past, maybe 8 times, up and down, ok, two more. my quads by then was kindaf screaming for air.
pedaling back along changi coastal, i could feel expanded, tired…only the falling leaves along the road kept me focused, with a cyclist hot on my rear, an experienced one… waved him to overtake me and i went behind and followed his pace, overtook him and did another 2 km before he and a bunch of super fast cyclists zoomed past me…
“com’on!”, i told myself, “keep the pace! hang on …”, this inner talking did help a little and i could stayed at the pace of 33km/h until i passed the group who had stopped at the end of changi coastal (i think they will doing some time trial). anyway, all the way to car park F2.
That was hell of a ride! a good one for my standards, and I did 52 km in less than 2 hrs. first time for many years since I step away from taking part in races and events. View high resolution

Running takes on a whole new meaning when you don’t have to worry about races and timings. B)

”.. I love how I can run up and into a mountain cirque or over a pass and be completely dwarfed and humbled by the sheer immensity and grandiosity of the landscape and I love flying down the other side with the breeze in my hair and the gravel in my shoes and the burning in my quads and the branches in my face and then when I’m finally all worn out there’s nothing like peeling my shoes off and just sitting. Just being at rest. Running sharpens the focus on life and intensifies the emotions. Is there any better reason to do anything?”

“Take the time to figure out what it is you’re doing and draw on that most essential, most basic motivation when you get tired during training or racing and realize that - even if life seems a bit uncomfortable now - you will undoubtedly feel better - about yourself, about life - if you press on and finish instead of giving up and quitting. Doing well in ultras is largely about perseverance: perseverance in the consistency of your training and perseverance in the face of race hardships. the more often you persevere, ultimately, over time, the easier and more effortless your running will become and the more fulfilling the experience will become. Relish the experience of being truly present, which I find the suffering of mountain races usually affords its competitors.”

I like reading her blog entries… though I only saw her in some of the races and say hi on some training runs. She is fast! all the best to her for the Sabah race.

You Can Be Whatever You Want To Be

by Donna Levine

There is inside you

All of the potential
To be whatever you want to be;
All of the energy
To do whatever you want to do.
Imagine yourself as you would like to be,
Doing what you want to do,
And each day, take one step
Towards your dream.
And though at times it may seem too
difficult to continue,
Hold on to your dream.
One morning you will awake to find
That you are the person you dreamed of,
Doing what you wanted to do,
Simply because you had the courage
To believe in your potential
And to hold on to your dream.

2012
不只是今年的年份。
一个特别的数字。
20
我们相识于二十年前,
20年的缘分。
12
我们共结连理于十二年前,
12年的姻缘。
A portion of your soul has been entwined with mine. A gentle kind of togetherness, while separate we stand. As two trees deeply rooted in separate plots of ground, while their topmost branches come together, forming a miracle of lace against the heavens. ~Janet Miles
